How this works

A clear answer starts with clear limits.

This is a preliminary rules check for a single direct cancelled flight. It is not a live flight tracker or a decision from an airline or court.

What the checker evaluates

We assess departures from EU countries, their covered outermost regions, Norway and Iceland. Arrivals there from outside need a qualifying operating carrier. Switzerland is routed to further review because its agreement and practice require separate handling. Airports elsewhere in geographic Europe do not automatically qualify.

The calculator checks personal notice before departure, the departure and arrival of offered re-routing, the known cause and actual arrival after an accepted replacement. The notice exceptions use strict arrival limits: less than four hours for seven to fourteen days’ notice, and less than two hours for shorter notice. Departure may be at most two or one hours earlier respectively.

Where entitlement remains, the bands are €250 / €400 / €600. Eligible re-routing can reduce them to €125 / €200 / €300 when arrival is within two / three / four hours respectively. We show a range if the reduction facts are missing, and do not present missing cause evidence as a guaranteed award.

What needs individual review

Connections, separate bookings, UK261, Swiss cases, contested extraordinary circumstances, and benefits already received under a non-EU law are outside this version’s definitive calculation. We do not estimate ticket refunds or expense reimbursements because their value depends on the booking and evidence.

The flight date and optional number label your journey. They are not used to query a status database. Airport distance uses a great-circle formula; approximate coordinates may affect a route very close to a legal distance boundary.

Maps and airport search

OurAirports provides the local snapshot of scheduled-service airports with IATA codes. Natural Earth 1:110m geography is served from this site. Both are public domain. The map is illustrative and its boundaries do not decide legal jurisdiction.

A dotted route means a cancellation you reported; the example route is explicitly labelled. No plane position is collected or inferred. If WebGL is unavailable, the text itinerary and a simple route diagram remain usable.

Fees and commercial links

The standard AirHelp example deducts 35% including applicable VAT, and a further 15% of the original compensation when legal action is required. At €400 this leaves €260 or €200. Regional pricing and individual terms can differ; check the current fee page before signing.

Sources and review dates

Rules and standard fees were checked on 9 October 2026 against the sources below. This version applies the existing cancellation framework, not proposed reforms. Rules, case law, airline procedures and prices can change; the official sources take precedence.
